Have you ever bought something just because it was on sale, even though you really didn’t need or love it?
That’s kinda what happened here. Ok, not kinda…totally. I saw this fabric online a few years ago on clearance for $2.40/yard. I couldn’t believe how cheap it was (not having much fabric buying experience at the time). I just had to rack up on this “once in a lifetime” type deal! So what I do is buy 10 whole yards of this novelty sequined gauze knit. I wasn’t quite sure what novelty, sequined, gauze, or knit meant but I new $2.40 was a steal.
Needless to say, I really wasn’t a fan of it when I received it in the mail. And over 2 years later, this is the first time this fabric’s been cut.
I’ve been so busy these past few weeks; I felt like it’s been too long since I’ve sat at my sewing machine and even longer since I’ve finished a project. So I wanted to sew up something cute and quick that I could finish in the weekend. I also didn’t want to buy any new fabric, I wanted to put something I already had to use. So it was a bit of a challenge I gave myself!
And this project was the perfect solution. I finished it in less than 4 hours!
This matching 2 piece set has a crop top with a deep v neck formed by a front bodice that crosses in the front and wraps & ties around the back. The pants are high waist and wide leg, with an elastic waistband. This was a self drafted pattern, the pants I’ve made before; the top I came up with based off the scraps from the pants. I originally cut them too wide, so I used the strips that I trimmed off of them as the bodice.
What I love about this outfit is that it really is great for a wide range of women. It’s for the woman who wants to be sexy and still leave something to the imagination, with no age limitation. The only limitations are confidence!
What do you guys think? Does this set leave just the right amount up to the imagination?
